Rukuriri has a significant tree planting initiative, with 228 acres of land and 151,035 eucalyptus trees planted. The factory’s tree nursery produces 70,000 seedlings annually (including eucalyptus, gravillea, and indigenous species), offered at subsidized prices and distributed freely to schools and institutions within Embu County.
Rukuriri Tea is a brand that has woven a tapestry of flavor, tradition, and serenity into every cup. Our essence is more than just a beverage; it’s a journey into the heart of tranquility. Where each leaf is treated as a treasure, and where the act of steeping tea is a ritual of mindfulness.
Nestled at the foot of the Mount Kenya’s slopes amidst the serene countryside of central Kenya, where rolling hills carpeted with vibrant tea bushes stretch as far as the eye can see, there stands a remarkable icon known as Rukuriri Tea Factory.
Rukuriri Tea Factory, part of the Kenya Tea Development Agency Ltd., serves 10,720 small-scale tea growers with 1,651.60 hectares in Embu County. Established in 1984, it’s managed by the agency and located 6 km off the Embu-Meru highway.
Positioned at 1800m altitude on Mount Kenya’s slopes, it utilizes various tea clones like 6/8, 31/8, TN14/3, and others for Black CTC tea production. The climate is favorable with rainfall between 1200-1900 mm annually, concentrated in March-May and October-December, and temperatures ranging from 13°C to 25°C, coldest in July-August and hottest in January, February, and September.
